Welcome to Our Website
Friends of the Garden is all about gardening and is for the many people all over the world who love gardening and enjoy the friendship that gardeners naturally extend to other gardeners.
We hope this site stimulates the new gardener and continues to increase the knowledge and understanding of more experienced gardeners.
Garden wisdom
“In all things of nature there is something marvelous.”
- Aristotle“ Wisdom is oftentimes nearer when we stoop than when we soar.”
- William Wordsworth“You're closer to God's heart in a garden than any place else on earth.”
- Dorothy Frances Gurney“ Kind hearts are the garden, kind thoughts are the root, kind words are the blossoms, kind deeds are the fruit.”
- Unknown origin
Starting a Wildflower Meadow
It’s easy to grasp the appeal of planting a wildflower meadow, a common hope being “I can just throw out some wildflower seeds and it will look pretty and I won’t have to deal with that steep hill, or wet area, or mow as much!” Well it may not be quite that simple, but given the proper site, season, seed, and preparation (yes, unfortunately there is actual work involved) a wildflower meadow can be a great natural and colorful addition to the landscape.
